The Numbers Game...

Why do everytime DEMOCRACY is being talked about – it is always told that the majority wins? My question: what if the majority is wrong, do they still win?

If you’ll look at the dictionary what democracy means you will see the word free first. And if you’ll dig deeper at it, it’s the Greek word DEMOKRATIA that it came from. DEMOS that means “people” and KRATIA that means “rule”. Thus, RULE OF PEOPLE… But it seems like what happened in the congress two days ago is the RULE OF MAJORITY.

Majority does not always win. You see, WE ARE humans, not excluding the alleged legislators of the country. As humans ONLY, we commit mistakes sometimes. “HONORABLE” CONGRESSMEN, you are not GODS, you are also humans like us. So if we say that DEMOCRACY IS WHAT THE TRUTH IS AND NOT ALWAYS ABOUT MAJORITY WINS, it might be a better explanation – coz democracy isn't all about freedom ONLY but also of truth. Bet you aren’t aware of the Bible verse that says THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE.

If the people don’t believe that the recent IMPEACHMENT proceedings is relieved of faultiness and thus represents VOX POPULI, you can’t blame them to go to the roads, their last resort. What really happened at the congress is a mere NUMBERS GAME. I DARE MOCK all congressmen who voted to trash the impeachment complaint. Just only because there’s nothing really different about us – we’re both humans and we’re both Filipinos. The only panel who had decided last September 6 is only the majority bloc. We were not heard. Apparently, it is only the 158 congressmen who decided about it. Have they dared to ask their respective constituents, who put them in where they are, about their vote? We know that it is not the RP who invented CORRUPTION to cry out loud, but what we howl is that we’ve had enough.

Now, does democracy rely in numbers?

As long as I’m blogging, you’ll never read that majority wins. It is against my NATURE. Since high school, I loathe that “majority wins” thing, coz I know that it is not always the right thing. Sometimes, minority is VOX DEI. Democracy was made, I believe, to promote freedom. With freedom, comes along truth. Even if it hurts and doesn’t sound like it’ll free you for the fact that it (truth) will sometimes put you to JAIL, it still frees. The truth shall set us free. It’s a maxim, an age-old general rule and principle; never a CLICHÉ. For it will never be overused, as long as freedom is suppressed it will remain true that truth really sets free.

Well, I think, democracy does rely in numbers… at least in its FILIPINO VERSION.

Hi The Wandering Samurai, like many other people, I'm scouring the internet in search of detailed info on independent immigration to canada. There seems to be a lot of info out there on the process and which lawyer to use, but I can't seem to find much info about which part of Canada is best and whether there are actually job prospects for new immigrants in Canada that take your qualifications into consideration. Anyway, I did manage to find one useful site about independent immigration to canada that seems to shed some light on the topic, but I still need more info. I thought that maybe your post about The Numbers Game... would be useful and although it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, it did give me some new insights. Thanks for a great read.
